When I first met the developers who are creating Deepworld, a 2D Sandbox-style building game that is similar to Minecraft at GDC in March, I informed them that the project would be much bigger than they had imagined. While they have a wealth of experience in developing servers and software operating a huge game like Deepworld will require a significant investment. They appear to have reached an agreement. The game has inspired the idea of a Kickstarter project to raise funds early for servers and development.

The group is offering a range of prizes to their supporters such as your own servers and worlds, as well as art books and other swag. You can also consider purchasing your own items including names, or images for the game. The goal is to raise US$20,000 overall and as of this writing, the group has collected around $4,000. I wish them the best. Deepworld looks fantastic and I was with you when I first saw it. I believe that the Mac (and iOS) would be greatly benefited from an app like that.
