Star Citizen update, 3.17.2, launches today. It brings a host new features to the ambitious, long-gestating simulation, including a new vehicle as well as additional missions and dynamic events. There are also servers that can host twice the number of players.

Star Citizen previously could only carry 50 players to one server. The new update doubles this number to 100. It brings the space trading sim and combat sim closer its original vision - a large, populated galaxy where players can barter and battle with a multitude of other players - and also increases opportunities for large scale battles and races. Cloud Imperium, the developer, hopes to eventually link Star Citizen’s servers together, creating an interconnected star system. This is certainly a step closer.

Siege of Orison, an exciting new event, is also included in the update. Game tolia Players must eliminate a number of lieutenants belonging to the Nine Tails faction, before finally confronting their leader. The delivery and courier missions also have a new strand in the form of illegal deliveries, which offer greater rewards but with the increased risk of being confronted by security forces, or ambushed by rival crooks. The new Anvil Centurion anti-aircraft vehicle can be used as a countermeasure. Additionally, there are some abandoned outposts you can explore if looting is more convenient.

NPCs also have better intelligence thanks to the new planetary navigation system. This allows them to find their way more effectively and smartly through rough terrain. Cloud Imperium claims that this will "serve as the foundation for future Star Citizen content".

Star Citizen is still a promising space-sim game after ten years. But with Bethesda's new space RPG Starfield and No Man's Sky's rapid updates, Star Citizen is facing stiff competition in this space-sim field.
